Reno Sweeny, the famous evangelist/nightclub singer has just come on board with her troop of "Angels", and they pose for the photographers in their "hallelujah" stance showing both a leg... and a wing. Reno spies her old friend Billy on deck and tries to get him to sail to England with her, but they are interrupted by Billy's boss, the great financier Elizabeth J. Whitney. |
|
"Billy, where the devil have you been!" his boss rages at him. Before Billy can explain, Miss Whitney stomps off, shouting to Billy that he's fired. Reno is delighted, and once again tries to get Billy to sail with her. Billy laughs and assures her that his boss is always firing and re-hiring him ... and that he's holding her passport. A second later his boss races back, relieved to find Billy and her passport, and hires him again. |

As Billy prepares to leave the ship, he catches sight of Hope on the upper deck. Surprised, he runs up and confronts her, telling her he has been looking everywhere for her for weeks after that wonderful night they spent together. She tells him she was now engaged and sailing to England to be married to Sir Evelyn. As she leaves, he realizes he has to somehow stop the wedding. Unable to get a last minute ticket, he decides to stow away and stay undiscovered long enough to convince her not to marry. |

Meanwhile, the notorious "Public Enemy #13" aka "Moon Face Martin", is sneaking onboard disguised as a preacher to escape from the Feds. His moll, Bonnie, takes Moony's "violin" and tells him to go mingle with the crowd while she scouts out the police who are on the prowl for him. He spots Mrs. Harcourt, Hope, and Sir Evelyn, and tries to mingle with them, but it roundly rebuffed by Mrs. Harcourt. As the three walk off leaving Moony by himself, he sees the ship's officers approaching. Anxious not to be found out, he ducks out of the way just as he hears them tell Billy they are looking for a felon dressed as a minister. |
|
By comic design, Billy points out the wrong preacher to the ship's officers, mistakenly thinking the man is the wanted criminal Moon Face Martin. As the poor, protesting minister is marched off to the Feds, a relieved and very grateful Moon, still in disguise, offers Billy the ticket and passport for his incarcerated partner "Snake Eyes Johnson". Billy is delighted with such a stroke of good luck, and the trio walk offstage, fast friends. |
